A Learning Content Management System (LCMS) can be considered a
repository or library where electronic copies of course content
reside.
An
LCMS is
typically catalogued and indexed for easy search and retrieval
of the content, and most such systems provide for easy creation
of revisions, versioning, etc.
Compliance
with emerging learning standards such as LRN
and SCORM ensures that
content will be portable (transferrable and interoperable) among
various authoring environments,
Learning Management Systems, and
learning delivery systems. These standards dictate that learning
content be stored as learning object "chunks," to enable
the content's reuse and management.
